Details worth knowing

A board is the starting point. Think about lighting, the wall around it and a clear place to stand before completing the setup.

Which board works with steel-tip darts?

Traditional bristle boards are made for steel-tip darts. Magnetic games are a different format, so they should not be treated as interchangeable. Match the board and dart set together before ordering, then choose flights, shafts and a case around the point type and game you actually plan to play.

What is special about the Winmau Blade X?

Winmau identifies Blade X as its official PDC board and describes a rotating number ring plus mounting and levelling components. That makes it a useful Blade-family comparison point for a home setup. Check the selected product page for the exact contents, because accessories such as a surround, light or oche can be separate choices.

How should I set up a steel-tip board?

For a standard steel-tip setup, place the bullseye 173 cm (5 ft 8 in) from the floor and measure 237 cm (7 ft 9¼ in) from the board face to the oche. Mount into a suitable solid surface using the board maker’s hardware instructions, and keep lighting, power leads and walkways clear of the throwing area.

Should I add lighting and wall protection?

Plan them with the board rather than after mounting it. A surround protects the area immediately around the board; a light is a separate way to improve visibility. Check compatibility with the chosen board and mounting system, and allow for the room’s doors, walkways and electrical access without putting them in the throwing area.

What is included in a dartboard setup?

A board, surround, lighting system and throwing mat can be separate purchases. Read the selected listing’s contents before building the rest of the setup, then match the dart type to the board. This is especially important when comparing a bristle dartboard with a complete magnetic game, since the two are intended for different equipment.
